How it works
A side channel blower works by transferring kinetic energy from a spinning impeller to air or gas, converting it into pressure through a process of centrifugal force. The impeller, mounted on the motor shaft, forces the gas to travel through a side channel, where it is accelerated, recirculated, and compressed with each rotation before being discharged.
Intake: The gas or air is drawn into the side channel through an inlet.
Acceleration: The rotating impeller imparts momentum to the gas, which is then accelerated outwards by centrifugal force in the specially shaped side channel.
Recirculation and compression: The design of the channel causes the gas to be swept off the impeller blades and recirculated multiple times before it reaches the discharge port. Each pass through the impeller adds kinetic energy, increasing the pressure.
Discharge: The compressed gas is finally discharged through an outlet silencer.
Multi-stage compression: For higher pressure, two-stage blowers have a second impeller that further compresses the gas after it passes through the first stage.
